"i was depressed and divorced then i found the gym that changed my life"

Coach Cynthia "Cindy" Aviles shares her story from a new member trying to find her way in fitness for the first time to a well respected coach.

The struggle was real

When I was going through a divorce, I was very depressed. I was drinking a lot, going out, and giving into things that were not conducive to my lifestyle. Just going out, partying, trying to numb the pain. And then I thought, I can't continue like this. I can't go down this path. And I was not happy.

Deciding to make a change

I saw a friend posting on Instagram some results she had gotten from this gym (Mean Green) and I was in awe. I could at least go give it a try. I didn't like fitness at all. Nobody in my family worked out. I didn't do sports or any kind of physical activity. This was new, and I had been with my ex-husband for 13 years, so this was my very first time doing stuff on my own.

Stepping out of mY comfort Zone

I had butterflies in my stomach, like knots. Just kind of the anxiety. The fear was, "People are going to look at me and judge me because I can't lift anything. My form is terrible. I'm not a gym-goer. Do I even belong here?" I could tell that some of these people had been lifting a long time. That's why I didn't like traditional gyms. Because I didn't know anything about form or weights or what I should be lifting. And, you just kind of get those looks.

Don't judge a book by its cover

When I got to Mean Green for the first time, I saw that everybody's physical body type was different. Some people were lifting 5 pounds, some ten. And that kind of made me feel a little bit more at ease and comfortable. Members were so welcoming and encouraging that after my second session, I felt the confidence to just do my own thing and try what I could.

the evolution

Fast forward a couple of months, now I'm confident and now I'm more secure in who I am. I know who Cindy is, what she's about. I've established my own brand for me. And what's given that to me is the gym. What I've accomplished and achieved in the gym, knowing that it's because of the work and effort I put in and the discipline I've put in. I did that. I carry that confidence now at work.

Pay It forward

Then I thought, okay, what's next? Like I want to see what else I can do. And so for a while, I had thought about my journey and what Mean Green, specifically in the fitness journey, did for my life and how it impacted me in such a positive way. I wanted to give that back to somebody else that might be struggling, or was struggling, or going through the same things that I went through.

Answering a calling

Everything I've learned along my journey and my path, I want to give that back. So then I made the transition from just being a member to coaching. Now when I see members walk in and they couldn't even lift the bar (25lbs), and seeing them now lifting 75 pounds power cleans, that as a trainer is like, okay, let's go. Seeing their growth, yeah. I can't even describe it into words what it feels like. I go home and I'm just very thankful that I can be a part of that. This is what I was meant to do. This is where I'm supposed to be.

Finding Fulfillment

I have several members, many of the ones that helped me gain my confidence as a member, have given me feedback like, "Man, you're killing it, Cindy. We're so glad to have a woman coach. You're amazing. We love your energy." That's a very meaningful moment in this trainer journey of mine.

It's not over 

It's never too late to start over or to start a new chapter in your life. Just because a chapter closes, that's not the end of your story. You can always try something new, and you'll never know until you try it. Just wait and be patient, and you're going to see how much God is going to change your life. This needed to be removed for you to really come into your purpose.
